Author Website Inspiration: Spring Colors

Here’s another in my series of seasonal posts about your author website color palette.

Color is obviously critically important, because we want your ideal readers to love your website. More specifically, when they see your web pages, readers should connect its vibe with the book(s) that you write, and feel they’re in the right place for the reading experience that they seek.

If that sounds nebulous, great news:

Chances are, your book cover designer has already done a lot of the hard work!

Hopefully, you or your publisher worked with an experienced, professional book cover designer and they worked carefully to understand your genre, your book’s positioning, and of course your preferences as the author. (If, on the other hand, you whizzed over to 99 Designs and picked the first cover you liked, please pause and think again).

As I said in my previous seasonal color article:

A book cover that you’re thrilled with, which sends the perfect signals to your ideal reader, really is worth its weight in gold. After that, your visual branding gets much easier.

So, you can read my winter colors post to get the lowdown on why seasonal brand psychology is so fascinating and, I think, useful. Want more? My favorite book on the topic is Fiona Humberstone’s, How to Style Your Brand : it’s both gorgeous and packed with great information.

And since, in the northern hemisphere, spring has more or less arrived, let’s jump into some examples from my author website portfolio that I feel sit nicely in the spring brand family. How do I determine this?

Spring brands are associated with being friendly, upbeat, optimistic, and approachable. (Think “happy” colors, and you’ll be on the right track.) They are not limited to colors that show up in nature during springtime; this is more of a feeling than a direct reference to our wonderful planet.

For book genres, we often see spring branding for children’s books, romantic comedy, and cozy mysteries. It’s also great for upbeat self-help and is a favorite for “rebellious” non-fiction titles (you know, the ones where an asterisk has to take the place of a letter in the book title!).

If all this leaves you confused, schedule an author website consultation with me, and we’ll start to explore your brand season together.

Think your work might lend itself well to spring branding?

Here, for inspiration, are some of my client websites that sit pretty well in the spring family of colors:

Author Website - Julie Murdock

Thriller and Suspense Author: Julie Murdock

Author Website - Lauren K. Hall

Author and Academic: Lauren K. Hall

Author Website - Gwen Hyman

Author and Writing Coach: Gwen Hyman

Author Website - Lori Arnold

Author: Lori Arnold

Author Website - Rashmi Sirdeshpande

Children’s Author: Rashmi Sirdeshpande

As you can see, every author has an individual way that they tell their story and present their work. This unique brilliance is a key inspiration for me, when I create your ideal website.
